Present in traditional communities and along the coast of Itacaré, fishermen and shellfish gatherers are regarded as guardians of ancestral knowledge and defenders of marine biodiversity, working in the mouth of the Rio de Contas and on the beaches surrounding the town. They are the honorees of the 12th edition of the Sabores de Itacaré Festival.
