At the north of Contas River, Pontal and Piracanga have 10 miles of deserted beaches and palm trees. They are just the begining of the Peninsula of Maraú
With great waves, Pontal offers excellent conditions for surfing. On the river side, calm waters are perfect for stand-up paddling.
North of Piracanga, the beaches of Algodões, Saquaíra, Cassange, Taipu de Fora and Barra Grande are still well preserved. The Maraú Peninsula protects forest, mangroves, rivers and wildlife.
How to get there
Every day, small boats cross the Contas River from the town to Pontal Beach. You'll find one at Coroinha Beach, in the town center.
